Recovering the Classics

I was inspired to make this concept poster series after working on the poster for a local University Theatre Department production of The Hound of the Baskervilles. I originally chose silhouettes as the focal point because of their historical use in posters, and for it’s strong, abstract nature.

I started off with the basic silhouette of the main characters of the story and after a thematic analysis of the work, I started to incorporate visual cues that symbolised the various themes of the work.

4 of the original posters were adapted into book covers that were accepted into the Recovering the Classics collection, a Creative Action Network initiative in partnership with the New York Public Library and the Digital Public Library of America to bring new and fresh covers to classic books in the Public Domain.
